Recently, I have completed 24 hours of hospice volunteer training. This included ethics, spirituality, rules and disclosures, plus my role as a volunteer. I decided to volunteer so I can help the families who are grieving and provide a hug or two to the person who is dying.
Over eight years ago, I "worked" in the hospice field, assisting patients, staying over night to provide respite (rest) for the family. In homes where the families have accepted the impending death of a loved one there is so much compassion and LOVE in the home!
Tomorrow, I will begin my first day of volunteering. Some volunteers call their new clients their "new families"-this is a good way to look at volunteering for hospice. These families are accepting me into their home to spend time with their loved one who is dying and to provide an open heart so I may listen without judgment.
I'm really looking forward to all of my new families!
