Fire & Winds in Southern California

This past weekend I was in Long Beach lounging around the coast. When I left on Sunday heading north on the 605, the wind started to blow. Then, when I connected to the 10 heading east, the relentless wind REALLY knocked my car around on the freeway. The weather forecasters call it the Santa Ana winds. I like to call it the Holy Sh*& winds! My little Scion was pushed all over the road, and trailers, trucks were swerving everywhere. Little did I know, that the area I just left, was going up in flames, thanks to these wild winds. When I drove through Banning, California toward Palm Springs I had to take an exit and park my car for a few minutes. Visibility from the blowing dust was 100 feet and my car's electronic gauges stopped working. I had to disengage my fuses and reengage them just to re-set the electronic system in my car.

When I finally crossed over to Arizona, the wind was still blowing. A huge high system is over this part of the country, causing the winds to blow from the east toward the west. The best thing to do is sit and wait for the winds to subside and hope some humidity hits the air in southern California. The firefighters, are up "fighting" the massive fires both day and night. Thank goodness for the Hot Shots who are willing to put their lives on the line all for a few bucks an hour.

Wild ride, indeed! But fun too!
