Narrow Leaf Yucca with Something to Brag About

This is a Narrow Leaf Yucca with a HUGE inflorescense. This strange word means: the complete flowerhead of a plant including stems, stalks, bracts, and flowers; the arrangement of the flowers on a plant; the process of flowering.

ORIGIN mid 18th cent. (denoting the arrangement of a plant's flowers): from modern Latin inflorescentia, from late Latin inflorescere ‘come into flower,’ from Latin in- ‘into’ + florescere ‘begin to flower'

When I drive around the Valley of the Sun, this type of yucca is used as an ornamental design for landscaping. Usually, when the plant flowers, a shaft will grow (the inflorescense) straight up & reaching over 12 feet! This shaft will be around four to five inches around; although this particular "shaft" is 3 1/2 feet thick! This yucca's (see picture to the right & below) inflorescense is 7' 9" tall! It is so COOL and for the last four months, the plant is still alive, although, someone hacked the top of the plant since it was covering the street sign.

I like to seek out strange blooms or plants who look a little odd-so my collection is small at the moment, but steadily growing. If you are curious about this plant or other plants, just let me know. Maybe we can search together!
