Freefall: Comes with a catch

Hello! My leg has healed a little, so I can gimp to my super iMac. I had one great birthday that involved jumping out of a plane from around 17,500 ft. I broke my ankle and haven't been able to create this blog entry for two weeks. I'm one of those crazy people who thought by bracing the 2 1/2 mile fall with my feet, things would be ok. If I had only paid attention...now to the fun part!

First off, this was a birthday present given to me from my husband. Second, did I mention that I jumped 17,500 feet? This is a tandem freefall, you can see Mike strapped to my back. He called me, "Little Bunny" since I hopped out of the plane. We jumped at speeds of 140 mph for about two minutes-what's called freefall-admiring the view of the entire Front Range. Then Mike asked me to pull the chute; I tried, but could not! So, he pulled and up UP we went into the beautiful blue sky.

Mike let me steer the chute, then when we came in for the landing, I tried to brace with my feet-which is really stupid by the way-and busted my ankle. My husband took plenty of pictures so my face plant will never be forgotten. Will I do this again? Yes & why not? The big catch for this freefall: just pay attention and raise your legs! I would have rather landed in the sand pit than on my ankle with a 6'5" guy named Mike strapped to my back. By the way, this was his 9000 jump.
